I was walking with a student in the hall. She had, for some reason, brought a book with her to go on this errand with me. So, as do all of the teachers at my school, I asked her to put her "hawkwings" on (hands behind her while she walks down the hall). She hesitated for a moment with her book open and said, "But I can't read behind my back..."

How to define "Emergency"

The question asked students to use a vocabulary word in a sentence.
The word was "emergency."

Her sentence(s):

We have an emergency! Mike got mugged! Oh my goodness! Oh my gosh! My nose! I look like Michael Jackson!

I guess that would qualify as an emergency...
